Super close up photos are just fabulous! They give you a whole new perspective on something you might have looked at a hundred times before. Seriously … I have never taken more than a quick glance at a raspberry before popping it in my mouth but this photo by Ronel_Reyes on Flickr has me in awe.

I’m a big fan of wearing simple outfits that are spruced up with fun jewelry and accessories and I’m always in search of quick and easy projects for creating these additions to my wardrobe.  The tutorial I made for today is for fun earrings that will take you less than five minutes to make!  I promise, once you have your materials on-hand, your earrings will be done in a flash. Even if you don’t consider yourself a “crafty” person, this DIY project is so simple that you’ll have no trouble with it!

Materials

  • Beads
  • Small Spacer Beads
  • Earring Headpins
  • Earring Hooks
  • Pliers

Step 1: Place your beads and spacer beads on the earring headpin in any order you like.

Step 4: Pinch the earring hook and headpin loops with the pliers to secure.

Step 5: Repeat for the second earring.

… and you’re done!  How easy was that?  Repeat these steps with any beads you have on hand and you’ll have a bunch of new earring sets within minutes!

If you’re planning on giving  your newly made earrings as a gift, why not present them in style?  Cut out a rectangle of craft paper (or even double it up) that your earrings will fit on.  Poke two holes at the top of the paper and hook your earrings through.  Now your new creation has a professional look and could easily pass for a set of earrings bought in a chic boutique!

Life Happenings: Festival of Lights

Tags

I have a wonderful family. Plain and simple.  Every summer my mom’s side of the family rent cottages on the beach and everyone (and there are lots) pops in and out over the two weeks they’re there. There’s always one night each year when they plan a big lobster dinner and, what they call, the Festival of Lights.

I’ve always been unable to make it there for the festival of lights, but this year I finally did! Lanterns along the path down to the beach ending with a bonfire – here is a little peak at how lovely it was …

A great ending to August!

Step 1: Cut a strip of the wool felt. The flower I made was about 4 inches in diameter.  I cut a strip that was 2 inches wide and 20 inches long. If you want to make different size flowers just adjust the width and length of your felt strip.

Step 2: Sew a loose running stitch along one side of the felt strip.  Before tying a knot, gently pull the felt along the stitch for a light bunch.  Now, tie a knot to hold in place.

Step 3: Starting at one end, begin to coil the felt strip.  Stitch through the bottom as you go to hold in place. Continue until you get to the end of the strip. Then, tie a knot.

You’re finished!  Create flowers in different sizes and colors and you have adorable additions to your everyday attire!

*Note: These lovely fabric blooms can be easily made with any type of fabric.  If you’re using cotton or a fabric that frays, there is an easy way to get a finished look.  In Step One – double the width of your fabric strip and fold in half.  Iron the folded strip to keep in place and sew your running stitch along the raw edge. Continue with steps 2 through 5.

I’m excited to introduce you to my Etsy shop today! A few weeks before starting this blog I set up a shop called Nailed it. The shop has handmade wall hangings and signs done by yours truly. There are different design and word options and I also do custom orders.

I also offer the option for the design to be painted a custom color and the board to be stained either ebony or white.
